There’s always a hunormous line in front of Adam Hughes any time he sits in an artist ally with good reason. Known for his voluptuous women and stunning cover work, Adam Hughes is one of my absolute favorite comic illustrators. His convention sketches don’t come cheap and it can be difficult to get on his list, but as this five-part video series will demonstrate, they’re totally worth the wait.

The Idea

I cringe every time he erases, although it is comforting to know that even Adam Hughes takes a while to find a composition he likes. I’m impressed with how he just jumps into the sketch. Not a lot of construction linery going on which just shows how confident he is with his work. Amazing.

The Process

Adam sniffs some marker and describes the method behind his madness.

The Tools

Using what Adam uses won’t make you draw like him at all, but I’ve always loved learning what’s in an artist’s arsenal. It’s the hands, not the tools, that make all the difference. But it’s still fun to see the toys. It’s interesting to note that he notices the way humidity affects his leads.

Requests

“Boobs.” LOL! I love the quality of the contour lines he lays out with that brush pen. Nice and smooth and very expressive.

The Finish

And we’re done! Gorgeous Supergirl!
