This brilliant 8-minute animated short was created entirely in Photoshop. Each frame was drawn using Wacom tablets. Not only is the animation top notch, but the story is quite good. Narrated by Nick Cave, The Cat Piano is set in a world of musical cats and told from the perspective of a lonely beat poet. When singing cats mysteriously disapear one by one, he goes on a quest to find them and rescue the love of his life. Enjoy!

The Art of Making Business
In the field of webcomics, which I have some slight experience with, everyone wants to be Penny Arcade. The two dudes on a couch bitching about games has become a rather crowded genre of webcomics. And while most have their eyes on Penny Arcade’s success, few of them understand what it means to run a business. After all, you don’t get to the point in your career where you can host a major gaming convention for five years just by sitting on your couch drawing pretty pictures of people sitting on their couch bitching about games.

To Sign or Not to Sign
As a general rule, I don’t sign my work. I know, sounds quite un-sane especially these internet days when it’s so easy for lazy so-called artists to steal your work and pass it off as their own, especially since most of my work is online on my Sketch Blog, DeviantArt, and Flickr accounts. It almost sounds like an invitation for others to steal my work, but there is indeed a small bit of method to my madness.

Intel Presents Digital Artist 2009 Master Classes Online
Digital Artist 2009 is a new competition that recognizes the best in digital work from concept art, illustration, architectural visualisation, animation, character design and videogame art. The submission process ends August 31 so it’s a little late to be posting this (sorry, I just found out about it today), but the really cool thing about this new competition is that they’ve hosted a number of digital art master classes with the likes of Dave Gibbons and Adi Granov as instructors. Best of all, they’ve put excerpts of those classes online to share the knowledge (thank you Intel!).

Art & Copy, a Film About Advertising and Inspiration
Advertising is one of those strange fields that combines artfulness and crass commercialization to produce works that are either the worst or best expression of both. It permeates almost all aspects of our lives without us even noticing it. We can feel its influence in nearly everything we do. Art & Copy is a new documentary making the festival circuit that shines a light on the unknown people who have influenced our lives more than we might care to admit.
